# Process Variables

There are settings we have to do across our TilliT account to create a vocabulary for our digital factory. As seen in [Definitions](/tillit/getting-started/definitions.md), Process Variables play an important role and the configuration section is where you will set this.

The Process Variable represents the measured value or parameter of a particular part of a process that is being monitored and controlled. List the **relevant process variables** and think about how things are stored, and measured, recipe settings, limits , design parameters etc. Next, think about what their **Unit of Measure** is e.g litres, Degrees Celsius, carton etc.

For example: temperature in Celsius degrees and batch size in litres.
